we keep hearing in our comments about blogs that are fed up with Entrecard; post pimpage fee announcement. everyone sees that problem with it immediately, everyone except entrecard that is.
what we need to consider is, what are the advantages to keeping that widget instead of dashing it.
sure we don’t like the new rules, or the way entrecard is being run basically into the ground. But we all have to admit one thing – it drives traffic, or probably you wouldn’t be reading this post.
Yes I am writing it as you are watching, because so many folks are wondering What to Do, What to Do …
yeah it’s a real mess. but who’s mess is it ?
I think the membership can do more to help put it back on track by engaging in a few new changes, enacted by US instead of the owners of entrecard.
- 1. Remember YOU are the Clicker – Do Not Give Away Your Power for One Second by becoming part of the Click Mafia. oh no ! that strengthens their hold on the situation.
Most Importantly – choose who and where to leave your clicks carefully. Do Not Buy ADS on Sites that Do Not Return Visits, Comments or Interact –
Stop Feeding The Dead Widgets,
they are killing YOUR Blog and Entrevalue
this will force them to reevaluate their taxes and policies, because less traffic means less payments to them. who wants to pay to advertise when clicks bottom out ?
Really Now.. why would you feed a vampire anyway ?
there is no list presently of advertisers that will be taking part of the widget space, because it appears There Are No Takers for Their High Prices.
yeah they hit us, but just think for a moment what they are charging anyone else who will be paying by the impression to advertise on our widgets. uh huhhh.. yeah now you’re seeing it.
The lack of impressions by a smaller membership will show the courted advertisers that someone has misquoted activity and statistics. this will in hand cause a cascading effect :
- a. their advertisers will instantly know they have been misled;
- b. the advertisers will see that the population of widgets is much smaller and gets alot less clicks than they were probably quoted.
- c. the value of entrecard clicks will finally match the level of interaction within the community.
2.The members of Entrecard will regain control of their widgets when they start to realize that WE Are the Power behind the value.
- a. if no one clicks it or buys an ad on it, the value eventually bottoms out. it’s not an indication of your popularity; it’s an indication of how people see spending their harder earned credits – as a reward and not dumping.
- b. the value of a blog will be equal to the real participation of that individual if we choose to click rather than feel compelled to click.
they are only giving you one ec per click, yet often when you look at the advertising rate quoted in the toolbar, the value of your highly visited highly commented, often updated blog; is not equal to the amount of many Vampire Widgets you click daily that are often dead or very outdated sites.
if we stop clicking those deadly vampire widgets, we will self police our own economy… and restore order and value.
- c.the righting of the entrecard economy will only happen with the full participation of ALL the Members. otherwise the clickfarmers and the sploggers will continue to fuel the Re-Inflation and Devaluation phase we are currently stuck in. everyone wants this to end right ?
I’m sure that these three steps seem simple, yet when we go to our dashboards, we have been conditioned to want that One Ec.
What about WANTING OUR SITE VALUE TO INCREASE ?
IMHO that is much more desirable and easier to accomplish if we work as a unit. those who choose not to think of this approach as realistic, will eventually see that it is unfortunantly the only way to deal with Vampires.
Really there is not need for a mass exodus, just a realignment of How “WE Use” their entrecard widget
sure you can use it to promote your site; but make no mistake – it is not the best nor should it be the only method you use to increase your popularity.
our next post will directly list methods to better push your popularity; without the use of entrecard as an active method. lets put it where it belongs; on the sidebar. feel free to let it sit there and just be what it is, a traffic generator – not a distraction to our growing blog community and push for popularity.

Brilliant. You know, I've been an EC member for a while and I haven't heard a peep from some of the people I faithfully drop on and on many occasions have left comments for. It's time to move on and stop giving their widget the clickie.

Entrecard never accounts for more than 20% of our traffic. Usually around 10%. And for us, we're looking for subscribers, repeat visitors who care about our content, and real friends that we can collaborate with. Entrecard has done a little of this for us, but we would never rely on just one source for anything.
But isn't that life? We've learned never to rely on one thing, especially with work. It always seems to go away at some point.
I'm sad to see so many of my Entrecard friends leave and this is the second or third time they are leaving. I have made many friends through Entrecard and it has given me traffic. It is sad to see it in such a state.
OK, I'm listening. But I think I'm missing something. How did you pop to the top of someone's blogroll when you posted? How? Is that something on the EC toolbar? I have never used it. But I still can't afford $50 to keep paid ads off my site. What am I do wrong?

I wonder why Entrecard doesn't just monetize their own site to make money instead of trying to place ads on our sites to make money for them? I don't see a single ad on the main Entrecard site.
Well, your plan shouldn't be too hard for me. I pretty much only buy ads from people who buy from me and/or comment anyway. There are a couple of sites from people who comment and visit regularly that I would like to buy, but it would take me saving up a month's worth of drops to advertise there. Plus, I'm only getting about 10 or 15 people dropping on me daily as is, which is probably my fault. I haven't been returning drops as often as I used to.
I do find it annoying that while I may not update every day, I do update several times a week. Nevertheless, the value of my blog dropped to 16 ec's the other day. Meanwhile, I've visited quite a few sites where no one has updated in three months, and the toolbar tells me I don't have enough credits, even when I have quite a few saved up. Then there are the blogs that only update with three lines of text (like "Today the dear hubby and I went to the grocery store. It was raining. While there I decided to check out these colon cleansers." with the colon cleansers being a link.) that cost 10 times what my blog costs. It's quite annoying and frustrating.
So they say vampires can't come in unless invited. I guess that means the plan is we don't go inviting them or ignore them when they knock on our Entrecard door. Works for me.

the popping to the top of her blogroll widget happened when I updated my site. It Happened on Each Blog I am a Friend To. if you have the widget installed you saw me Pop Up to the Top as soon as I Updated.
that confirms that I have something worth dropping in to see and dropping a card for. VOILA !
I made sure to friend her blog in her google friend widget; and then I also added myself to her friends list on her widget. when I update the rss feed detects it and pushes me to the top of her blogroll. BAM, she knows I've updated and she saw that I posted so she came by to see what I posted.
that's the smart way to play this game. get into friending, subscribe to rss feeds, encourage others to do the same and you will be notifying them of your new content, as quickly as it's updated.
proof of that is that you are here, and you hardly ever visit this blog – yet here you are. Magical !

I'm always amazed at how much thought you put into the whole EC mess. I started dropping smarter awhile ago when you talked about dropping from favorites rather than the inbox. (although I remove favs that seem like decent blogs but never interact back). My main concern is that so many high quality blogs have left and I'm worried about just who will be left in the community over the next few months.
Glad to hear a solid plan. As much as I like to vent, I also like to take action.
This is one of your best posts on the subject of EC. I always wonder why any valid blogger would waste their dropping time on the vampire droppers. I personally value my dropping time and refuse to drop on any spam blog or, for that matter, any blog that can't be bothered to update in 30 days or more.

It is as simple as you want it to be or as difficult as you want it to be as in anything we do in our life.
Bottom line we all enjoy comments and people that are genuinely interested in what we are saying.
Entrecard has an edge on us as we do profit from their traffic in getting more potential commenters.
I have never really worried too much about what Entrecard is up to next because if I really do not want to play by their rules…I will go somewhere else. As the Guys mentioned…never keep all of your eggs in one basket.

Did I call it or did I call it on that previous post? Sorry, but I'm too lazy tonight to go back and post this on that one.
That's not the way I choose blogs to advertise on. I do not care about if the blog owners I'm advertising on, will click my ad or not. My basis is their Alexa rank. As a former advertising/marketing specialist, advertising is not really aiming to get "direct response" (clicks), but exposure, and a message that the product is present with all these features. So whenever , I advertise on a blog, I do not care if they are popular on Entrecard or not. I want "number of visitors" visiting that blog where my widget is exposed to. If I advertise on a blog which clicks on my widget regularly but has an Alexa of 1,000,000….who will else see my ad other than the owner and the 10 readers who visit that blog. The purpose of advertising is defeated. You see, if nobody watches your TV show, who will advertise? or if you advertise on that show, who will be it exposed to?So I don't care if they don;t click .

One of my favorite blogs Caledonian Comment was banned completely yesterday for making a comment about English law in the forums yesterday. I've added his widget right under my Entrecard one. Entrecard is really suckish right now and I am even more convinced that the ownership never changed at all. Same old shit -
I've had it. No more dropping and removed the widgit. My blog site has totally tanked, but that is my own fault. Those people are crazy!!!
