Acer Iconia A100 Tablet Gets Android 4.0 Update For Some Owners Around The World

apple-vs-android:

#Apple vs #Android Talk #Android

If you own an Acer Iconia A100, today is your lucky day. Acer previously confirmed the Iconia A100 would get ICS, but we know that manufacturers sometimes encounter delays and issues which sometimes prevent much-needed software updates from arriving on time. We knew Acer had been working on the update dilligently as we saw a smooth-running tease of the latest software, but it looks as if they didn’t have much to work on or tweak as they began pushing the Android 4.0 update to owners of the tablet around the world.

Oh and what’s more is the fine team at _XDA_ has been kind enough to provide a download link to those who haven’t received the update or update notification yet. So if you’re feeling lucky and/or impatient, hit the download source and download links to grab the update for your tablet today. Happy updating!

Best Buy Updates Pre-Order Status Of HTC Evo 4G LTE To May 23rd

apple-vs-android:

#Apple vs #Android Talk #Android

The HTC Evo 4G LTE is currently stuck in U.S. Customs (thanks, Apple), delaying the May 18th launch on Sprint. Customers who pre-ordered from Best Buy are now receiving emails updating them of their order status, stating a new release date of May 23rd.

Interestingly, HTC wasn’t as date specific as Best Buy in their statement:

_HTC is working closely with U.S. Customs to secure approval for shipments of the HTC One X and HTC EVO 4G LTE. We have not made any announcements about a new launch date and will provide an update on availability as soon as we can do so confidently._

Best Buy setting a May 23rd date does not guarantee a release on that day. Until the phones are released from U.S. Customs no one can be sure of when the phones will make it stateside.

To be stupid, selfish, and have good health are three requirements for happiness, though if stupidity is lacking, all is lost.

Atari Mindlink, 1984

(via imgTumble)

The Atari MindLink was a peripheral planned by Atari for the 2600 that didn’t see a public release. AtariAge Magazine spoke of it as an up-and-coming item and at least one of the game pack-in catalogs showed an illustration with no description in the “coming soon” section, but it (like the module to turn the 2600 into a home computer) was quietly dropped. One game was written for the MindLink, “Bionic Breakthrough”, which is available as a ROM image but is impossible to play without the the peripheral. (I’d never heard of the second game mentioned by Wikipedia, “Mind Maze”.)

Baidu Hits The Market of Android – China Cloud Smartphone Technology

infotales:

Introduction:

Hitting the technology with more advanced tools is nowadays the first priority of all upcoming brands such as Smartphone making companies and software houses of the world. However there is a huge advancement in some of the regions of the world, leaving under developing countries at their back, as China has been emerged as a joint of internet giants Baidu. It has been creating a ground for an open rivalry with Google and all the other same process developers via Smartphone market of China as it has upgraded with Baidu Cloud that works on the platform of Smartphone.

Among the Best:

It is not an era of being producing a good product but the best products can only survive in the market that has led the overall situation towards devastatingly changing environment, especially in technology sector. However, discussing Baidu and the successful strategy of China, it has been working on the affects of the best search engine of China that has its separate Operating System to deal with Android. However, it is not the case that with some previous tools that are launched for same purpose as it has been heard that an integrated product will be launched very soon that will be covering the cloud based technology.

Announcements – On Way:

It is the latest announcement that has just been shared above with the viewers and according the teasing remarks of executives, there are some pipeline news that will be revealed during the span of a week and that will be sharing the specific partner brands. On the other hand, it has also been revealed that the product will be more likely to be called as beta such as Google Drive and will be proved as new platform for the users so that they will be able to get more satisfactory service.

Conclusion:

It can be summarized as the Baidu Cloud is the potential player of the battle ground where Android used to consider a danger by providing the dedicated Operating System of China that crucially goes around the services of Google provided in the favor of Baidu. It is predicted that it will be gagging the interest of Smartphone making companies to acquire such technology and if it will the case, the Economy of China will become more stable and will also get more exposure in the technology markets of the world.

steakordie:

So I ended up buying the extended 2000 mAh battery for my Galaxy Nexus and it cost me about $35 shipped. At the moment 2000 seems to be the threshold before the battery gets so huge that it makes your phone socially unacceptable requires a special back cover that bulges out awkwardly.

It still works perfectly fine with my Cruzerlite case but it definitely packs a little more weight to it now. As you can see from the pictures, the battery is taller and the replacement backing is only slightly bulkier…not that you would even really notice it.

The original battery is 1750 mAh so if my math serves me right then that’s only a ~13% increase in capacity. In theory it doesn’t seem like much but I’m going to go ahead and assume that I need it because of my experiences with the life sucking HD screen.

I let it run through about 3 charge cycles before getting that result above, so it might still be a little premature if the battery isn’t really calibrated yet. I’ll have to pop back in the stock battery to compare it, but I’m noticing a pretty steep drop off once it gets below 30%

Anyway, I’m guessing that having a spare battery around might come in handy…some day.

Russian researchers build partial android for bizarre mind-transfer project (video)

apple-vs-android:

#Apple vs #Android [Engadget]

A Team of Russian researchers are building a conceptual mind-transfer android, and we’re definitely not talking about Ice Cream Sandwich. However bizarre, their goal is to help mankind achieve immortality using a combination of humanoid robots and interstellar space travel to get away from a dangerous and overcrowded planet — but most of the needed technology seems so far off that we could probably power cycle the world’s slowest Linux computer a million times before we see any of it. One prototype includes the torso of an android that will one day house a a computer rig that would be theoretically capable of acting as a personal proxy — essentially, a place to upload “human souls.” This absolutely insane über-ambitious project is the stuff of science fiction, but the big shots over in the birthplace of Tetris say it’ll all be possible by 2045. Need more convincing? Check out the two videos after the break.

Xiaomi Phone gets a Youth Edition, a less powerful, cheaper alternative for students

khalilahsite:

Many of you are already familiar with the Xiaomi Phone and its reverence in the MIUI community, but now the Chinese manufacturer has introduced a less expensive counterpart to the original, which is aptly known as the Youth Edition. Priced at 1,499 yuan ($237), this smartphone will sell for a full 500 yuan less than its elder and will retain many of its components, which include a 4-inch, 854 x 480 display, an 8-megapixel camera, 4GB of ROM and a 1,930mAh battery. In fact, the only significant changes are the dual-core 1.2GHz CPU (which is down from 1.5GHz), and 768MB of RAM instead of the original 1GB. Xiaomi will produce 150,000 Youth Edition handsets, which seems like a healthy number, but if you want to stake your claim to one, you’d best join in the pre-registration process, which runs now through May 18th.

windfinderblog:

Today we have released a new version of our Windfinder Android App. This update features a complete rewrite of the forecast page which should give a better scrolling and smoother experience overall. We also updated the screen layout to give you a better visibility of all elements.

Another big new feature is the addition of tides - these are displayed directly near the forecasts. For locations that depend on tides this is a huge step forward to get good sessions on the water.

You can download our Windfinder Android app directly from Google Play. If you want to have more information about the app, you can visit our product page for the Windfinder Android App.
